One of my favorite recent discoveries is the British rockabilly label Western Star records. There are a bunch of modern rockabilly bands and they are all good.

The most recognizable name on the label is also the oldest, Vince Eager.

The Western Star people have convinced Eager to record three albums now of classic rockabilly. His most recent 75 Not Out alludes to his age.

Eager has rockabilly bonafides. he was one of the biggest British stars in that post-Elvis in the Army era of the late 50s. He was part of that scene with people like Cliff Richard. He toured and roomed with Billy Fury, and he was best friends with Eddie Cochran.

Eager has spent the last couple of decades playing Elvis tributes in London and also as a travel agent. Eager shows up a lot in the minutiae of Morrissey fans. Morrissey named Eager's "World's Loneliest Man" as the #1 song he wants played at his funeral. Vince Eager is also the name Moz used to check in hotels in the 90s. Indeed,"World's Loneliest Man" is about as Moz sounding as you can get.

75 Not Out is a fun record. He covers some standards in rockabilly like "Summertime Blues" and Vince (not to be confused) Taylor's "Brand New Cadillac".

Eager is backed by Western Star bands which takes this album to the next level. Eager's voice is solid from years of performance, but the backing band (especially in the case of The Bullets) play white hot rockabilly. It makes for a great classic rcokabilly record that sounds very modern.
