One of my favorite finds of the summer was The Interrupters. They were one of those bands that I heard once and thought "Why aren't they huge?".

Well, they are beginning to explode on alt-rock radio.

It's hard not to mention them without mentioning Rancid. It's Tim Armstrong's label. He produced them, and their CV sounds like a bunch of his projects and friends (Tim Timebomb band, Rancid, Transplants, Sugar Ray, Green Day, Jimmy Cliff).

For the most part, though it is how they so smoothly imitate a certain sound. Rancid emulated a Clash/Sham 69 sound so perfectly that it caused resentment. Indeed, one can imagine the band's playlist would include the Clash, the Translator, the Specials and Agnostic Front.

There is no doubt that the Interrupters will be besieged with comparisons to another female-fronted punk/pop/ska band. It is inevitable and one can't help but think this band came along 20 years too late.

You can't help it, but this group is certainly more punk than that other band did from Tragic Kingdom onwards. There's certainly maybe some parallels to the Dance Hall Crashers, but as far as that other band. Amy Interrupter is a fantastic frontwoman. It's hard not to think of Joan Jett just a bit in her swagger and growl. The band is pretty top notch too.

Lead single "She's Kerosene" might be the best song released in 2018. It sums up all of the Interrupters' parts perfectly. Like some of their predecessors, as you listen to the record, there is not a lot of difference from track to track. "Kerosene" is fantastic. "Gave You Everything" and "So Wrong" probably stand up enough to be singles, and the rest of the album has chants that would go down well at a punk/ska concert.

In any case, I enjoy some new blood into the genre, though there will probably be people from all sides who might try to tear them down (Too pop? Not pop enough?). They're wrong though.
