I have to embarrassingly state that though I know the name King Khan- this is my first experience with the man.

That said, there are some similar named artists, so that probably doesn't help things.

I probably first heard of him in the mid-90s when there was this garage rock movement with bands like the Oblivians, New Bomb Turks and loads more. They were sort of under my radar though I picked up what I could.

Anyway, I am told to start off with King Khan and the Shrines, which is better than the duo (I guess) which is King and a guy who goes by BBQ.

I don't know- like i said this is my first experience with the band. Indeed, I am told that this disc isn't much different than the other discs put out by Khan & BBQ. i certainly believe it.

In any case, I am digging the newest which is Bad News Boys.

Allmusic compares them to the Cramps and Hasil Adkins, which is appropriate in many ways, since there is such a 50s vibe, but also "joke' bands like the Dickies and the Mentors.

They don't necesssarily sound like any of those bands, but by comparison, it's a good start. The Cramps are a pretty obvious one. One of the thing that makes this such a good disc is that they are a great garage rock band, but they really have an adoration for other 50s music like doowop and the blues.

Meanwhile, the band's sound couldn't exist without Pacific Coast Hardcore circa early 80s.

Take "Killing the Wolfman" for example, a surf-y garage romper with horror themed lyrics which evolves into a rip on the Dead Kennedy's "Chemical Wolfman"

So I am chronically late on checking out this band, but am absolutely eating this record.
