Raised on Radio #25- Falco
Feb. 3rd, 2013 03:44 pmWell... Falco.
I don't really need to say anymore.
I thought Falco 3 was the coolest album ever. (The album peaked at #3 and the single "Rock Me Amadeus" was a #1).
Prior to that, his "Der Kommisar" was covered by After The Fire, which took it to #5, and was a standard. In those days, German bands did rather well here, whether it was Nena or Peter Schilling. Falco's 1982 album Einzelhaft broke the American Top 100 Records chart.
It was 3 of course that was the breakout, and actually featured two Top 20 songs ("Vienna Calling" went to #18). I remember "Vienna" being played on the radio maybe once or twice, but I wouldn't have guessed it cahrted that high.
The Emotional album was released quickly to cash in on his success, but his American career was over. (I cannot find any kind of sales totals on Emotional and it apparently didn't chart, but the diehard fans I knew or have since come to known all ended up buying it.)
It's silly, it's macho, but it can only be pulled off by someone who believes himself 100%, and Falco had self-confidence in spades.
It's all been downhill in music history from this point hasn't it?
