Rick Perry (as the World knows) wants to get rid of three government agencies.
No one knows what they are (including Perry), but we get it. The Republicans are the party of less government.
Although, to be fair, I don't believe it. With the exception of Ron Paul (who would have likely voted against rural electrification), I will only believe it when I see it. The Republican Presidents in my life time only seem to increase the size of government (Homeland Security, TSA, Office of Faith Based Initiatives).
Ever since Ann Coulter hit the bestseller list, it has been a talking point that FDR was the third worst WW2-era leader (still not as evil as Hitler or Stalin, but worse than Mussolini and Tojo). The Republicans despite popular opinion, seem hellbent on getting rid of Medicare, Social Security, and anything that could be called a handout.
AARP
polled Iowans who are senior-aged supporters of the current Republican field and asked them what they thought.
Herman Cain (this was before
that) was the Seniors' favorite with 25%. Romney was second with 21.5%. 22.8% were undecided, which proves the field is still wide open.
The more notable numbers from the survey are that 64.5 percent of Iowans polled oppose cutting Social Security benefits to aid the national deficit, and 67.3 percent oppose reducing Medicare. The poll shows 65 percent of Republicans planning to caucus would rather withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan than see Social Security cut. Slightly more, 67.3 percent, said the same for Medicare. The
Register also printed individual results for supporters of Cain, Perry (this was before
that) and Paul.

On a side note, the
Register also printed an opinion piece which covered the same thing I was wondering- "Do you
have to eliminate an agency to cut government oversight and reduce spending.
