I have thrown a few music suggestions at you this week. Here's one more.

Okay, okay. This band is called Foxygen. I was skeptical at first, too.

I like them quite a bit and figure you should get on board before they hit big in 2013.

They remind me of the Velvet underground, which many indie bands do, but they actually do a good job of replicating Lou Reed at his most Dylanest.

They also go into Bowie/Bolan (and yes, Transformer) glam.

All sounds that I enjoy, but would steer bands away from trying to copy.

Foxygen pull it off though, and occasionally steer into psychedelia, British Invasion, and garage rock, and all of it is pretty good..

Check their songs out on bandcamp.

Okay, this is old, but I thought it was amusing so was passing it along.

I was in the comic book shop to pick up new issues on the Wednesday following Election Day.

Which featured this...

So there's your latest gimmick to get people to buy two issues.  There was an "Obama wins" issue of course, and both comics featured a last panel which showed Spawn and the President-Elect (whoever it was going to be face-to-face) like so.

President Barack Obama Spawn #225

I don't have anything against MacFarland, despite some nasty stories about him through the years.  At the time of it's debut, Spawn was the first character to really capture my generation (it helped that I was teenage) that we could say this was our Batman or Superman.

It's actually less ridiculous than you think.  Look at the writers on the comic through the first 100 issues or so (Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, David Sim, Steve Niles).  Of course, I haven't kept up with Spawn since Brian Michael Bendis wrote the Sam and Twitch series, which is probably close to 15 years ago.

Anyway, I realize I have conflicted feelings on this, but it feels like an obvious cash grab to me (You have to buy both, don't you?  Oh, you're not a real fan !?!?!?).  Also, the tie-in seems forced, though Barack sells comics. I guess i would do the same thing.

Even Liefeld used Obama back in the day (if you call 2009 "in the day").

Sadly, Obama does look Liefeld-ed, but he doesn't look like the roided-up Barry Hussein you might hope for.

Then again, it is just a headshot.  he may be buff from the neck down.
