The Des Moines Register poll came out this week, and per their threatening legal verbiage, let me remind you that they did all the hard work, and I just read it and am making witty comments about it.

The poll if you haven't seen it is:

Gingrich 25%
Paul 18%
Romney 16%
Bachmann 8%
Cain 8%
Perry 6%
Santorum 6%
Huntsman 2%

The poll did take take in account that Cain may be dropping out suspending his campaign, and thus reports in a Cainless landscape, things look like this:  Gingrich 28%, Paul 19%, Romney 17%

Also, because this is a caucus, the Register combines first and second preferences to give a clearer picture of who could possibly emerge from the fight.

Gingrich 43%
Romney 31%
Paul 25%
Bachmann 19%
Perry 18%
Cain 17%
Santorum 10%
Huntsman 4%

Of course, there are no real surprises here (Newt is ascending, Cain is rapidly descending,  Romney fatigue is setting in) .  this poll is well in line with what we have seen in other polls, but the Register poll is always essential reading because of the other questions they ask, such as:

Romney 19%
Bachmann 17%
Cain 14%
Perry 12%
Paul 10%
Gingrich 8%
Santorum 8%
Huntsman 3%

It also should be noted that 60% said they could be persuaded to change their mind and 11% haven't declared a preference.  It could still be anyone's game.
