The Conductor Wore Black

As one last summer excursion, I took a ride on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.

The B&SV RR is a heritage railroad which runs 12 miles on a track that was built in the 1890s and active until 1955.

There are daily runs in the summer, and also special occasion trains (Thomas the Tank Engine, a SteamEngine, and the Polar Santa Express- don't get that last one wrong, the Polar Express guys are sue-happy) at certain times of the year.

The train serves partially as railroad history and partially as a good idea for a date weekend (There are Dinner Trains, Picnic trains, Dessert Trains, and Open car Trains).

Admittedly, this isn't an adrenaline rush, but it is an enjoyable lazy afternoon; nor is it necessarily part of the country that I don't see very often, but it is still beautiful country.

It is worth going if you are in Central Iowa.

Have some pics.

There were a couple of trees where an artist had sculpted faces.  They were literally carved into the tree.  They were beautiful, but starting to grow out giving this one a bit of a sinister air.
