On the Shelf 108: Eddie Spaghetti
Best known as the lead singer of the Supersuckers, Eddie has quietly made a nice alt-country career as a solo artist.
Sundowner made my list of 20 Best Records of 2011, and I suspect Value of Nothing will make my 2013 list.
Poor Ed will probably not get the respect he deserves (even compared to say to someone like Rhett Miller) which is a shame. Nothing is all originals (Spaghetti has usually went half-and -half with covers), and besides the obligatory near-naked girl on the cover and song titles like "People are S#it" and "If Anyone's got the Balls..", this would be a nice little respectable alt-country record.
Little, as with the Supersuckers, Spaghetti knows these records are better as 30 minute players than magnum opuses, but it really is good. Speaking of Miller, a few times Spaghetti sounds a bit like the Old-97s front man's solo albums. It's not necessarily a bad thing.
