Caucus Update: "We Weren't Talking About You" edition

There has been a lot of talk about the disappointment in the current GOP field.  A recent poll said 50% of Republicans wanted another option.

I don't think that means Rudy Giuliani.

Still, Rudy speculation was today's headline.    I can't imagine Giuliani doing anything in Iowa, and it's going to be a uphill road without the Hawkeye State.

Rudy made a couple of unforgivable decisions in regards to Iowa and finished 6th here in 2008 with 3.4% of the caucus vote.

Still, maybe there is something in the recent poll where Willard is leading the field.  Why do people like Romney?  Is he only popular because he is seen as electable?

Rudy once was considered the most electable of all Republicans.  Could he cash in?

Unlikely. Giuliani (2012 edition) peaked with 8% of support in the polls (back in April), which is Ron Paul on his worst days....

...or Newt Gingrich on his best.  While Rudy news was on tv, Newt was all over the front page of today's Register with his 21st Century Contract With America.

Hey, I get it.  The Contract was what made Newt who he is.  Still, I have been listening to Alice Cooper's Welcome 2 My Nightmare lately, and there's something lame about a sequel that comes out nearly 20 years later.  Ask anyone who saw Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

I would put odds on Alice back in the Top 10 before I could see Newt being nominated.

Finally, speaking of polls, there is no bigger way of knowing how popular you are than by how many people "like" you on Facebook.

(This I stole from the Register's Jason Noble who has had the unenviable job of following Michele Bachmann and Thad McCotter around).

Romney is first with 1,123,097 fans.  Bachmann is a distant second with 461,356.

Noble points out Obama swamps them all with

Herman Cain is third with 208,359 likes and the hugest weekly gain (16%).

Internet darling Ron Paul is sixth with 112,251, behind Perry, Gingrich, and Gary Johnson.

Maybe they're all on Google-Plus.
