Raised On Radio #4: Tony Carey

I grew up with the area's CHR/Hot Hits/Top 40 station- KHTR in St Louis.

Hot Hits was a format that played the Top 40, but with a strong rock influence to it.

Here is a sample playlist from that era.

The Hot Hits format went as fast as it came, but for the 80s, KHTR dominated ratings. By the time I reached high school, and the 90s approached, KHTR became an all-oldies station KLOU.

One of the people that did well for Hot Hits was Tony Carey.

Carey had two quick hits that I really liked. He had been keyboardist for Rainbow, and had J Mascis hair.

1984's album Some Tough City went to #60. Singles "A Fine Fine Day" went to #22, and "The First Day of Summer" went to #33, but for rock -heavy stations, they were in heavy rotation.

Carey kept and keeps recording, though he's stayed a bit out of the mainstream eye.

Anyway, both were some of my favorite singles of the time, and to pick one, I am going to go with "A Fine Fine Day"- now fairly obscure, but I still think it holds up.
