The Register ran a poll breaking down the recent poll by candidate through issues.  It is this kind of minutiae that I dig but doesn't really mean anything.

The only time that I know that it signals something is during the general election when the Democrat does well polling on "Conservative issues" (or vice versa), then you know they are going to probably win.

These polls were run before even the faithful started to question whether they were still behind Herman Cain.  The Register on Monday reported that 11 of the 15 Cain supporters they had polled were starting to question Cain's fitness to be President.  (Reassuringly, Clint Eastwood still has his back).

The poll says Women thinks Jobs are the most important issue.  Men think the debt and spending are most important.

So, not surprisingly, it's the economy (and the debt) stupid.  Tom Tancredo was smart to sit this one out.

Here were what respondents said were the most important issues (respondents could pick two)

National debt and government spending  48%
Jobs and the economy  47%
Moral issues (gay marriage, abortion) 20%
Tax policy 12%
Health care 10%
Immigration 8%
Global terrorism 4%

The poll also broke down who the Iowa Republican caucusgoers feel is the expert on each issue.

This was printed in the Sunday Register but is not online anywhere I've found (even the Register's online edition), so let's call this what this is- an online exclusive.

Jobs/economy
Cain 26%
Romney 21%
Paul 10%
Perry 9%
Bachmann 6%
Gingrich 6%
Santorum 2%

The Debt

Immigration

Gingrich 10%
Paul 10%
Bachmann 9%
Santorum 3%

Moral Issues
Bachmann 19%

Romney 14%

Real Steel - Real Steel has got a lot of good press and has been described as "Rocky meets Rock-em sock-em Robots."

It is to everyone's involved credit that it lives up to that hype.

Even moreso, as Real Steel is more Bloodsport than Rocky.  Sure there's the father-son interaction and the down-on-his-luck story going on, but it's all pretty basic stuff.  Hugh Jackman does execute it all perfect.  Indeed, Steel is probably the most predictable film I've seen in three years.

None of that matters, though, as it is impossible to cheer on for this tale of the next logical step of WWE and UFC (well, probably not really), and that's robot fighting.

Steven Spielberg is the executive producer and though I am not sure what role he had, he did see a good thing here.  The writers and production team otherwise don't have much in the way of a knockout resume.

The story is based (at least loosely) on a Richard Matheson short story.  I haven't read Matheson, but I have been meaning to.  I am familiar with some of his work for the Twilight Zone and if Steel sounds vaguely familiar, it is because "Steel" was a similar-but-different story adapted for TZ.

I won't say everyone will enjoy it, but I think a lot of people (and types of movie fans) will like it.  It is much more than what it could have been.  It's already got a sequel greenlighted, but that just means it's a hit.
